Ride, Sally, Ride!

We have one less hero in America today.

Sally Ride, the first American woman to go into space, died today.  She was a true pioneer of the 20th century.  Good looking, smart, an astronaut, and a girl.

At first, I thought it was Christa McAuliff who was the first woman in space, but then I read "AN ASTRONAUT, and a girl". My bad. Christa McAuliff was a school teacher. I had almost forgotten about Sally Ride. She will be missed. :(

Thanks, Shannon, I was looking for "women who inspire" and I hadn't remembered Christa.

I remembered Christa McAuliffe because one of my high school classmates applied for a science scholarship in her name and got it. Last I heard, Cynthia got on with a company who contracts with NASA in Pensacola where I'm from. The space industry is big down there. :)

I used to live in Central Florida -Winter Park and Winter Haven. We could see the space shuttles from our house before they got too far out into space. I was asleep when Christa's space shuttle exploded. There were roofers on the house across the street and they must have turned the volume on their radios up to max when they got the news because it woke me up and I knew instantly what had happened.
